AP, APR

DIN mount split core AC current sensors based on PRiME air-core technology

AP & APR Split-core transducers

The AP and APR series are split-core current sensors designed to accommodate AC current ranges from 10A to 400A, adjustable via a switch.

These sensors are available in both RMS and True RMS versions and offer multiple output options, including 4-20mA, 0-5V, or 0-10V, which can be selected via a switch. They boast a wide bandwidth spanning from 30 Hz to 6 kHz and feature an 18 mm diameter aperture.

While both series share similar characteristics, they also offer distinct features. The AP series is equipped with an RMS version, operates within a bandwidth of 30-2000 Hz, and is loop powered. On the other hand, the APR sensors come with a True RMS version and a broader bandwidth ranging from 30-6000 Hz.

Both the AP and APR series offer B10 and B420L versions of their electronic components. The B10 variant refers to the sensors' voltage output capability (0-5 or 0-10 V DC), while the B420L variant pertains to the current output (4-20 mA DC) of the sensors.

Utilizing the PRiME (Rogowski) air-core technology, the AP and APR sensors are primarily tailored for applications in the energy and automation sectors, where precise current measurement is essential.

AP, APR – Features and benefits

AP & APR split core current sensors

Main characteristics

  • RMS output (AP) or True RMS output (APR)
  • Split-core type
  • 0-5 V DC and 0-10 V DC switch selectable voltage output (AP-B10, APR-B10) or Loop powered 4-20 mA current output (AP-B420L, APR-B420L)
  • DIN rail or Panel mounting
  • Switch selectable measuring ranges
  • Insulating plastic case recognized according to UL 94-V0

Moreover, APR split-core sensors are equipped to measure VFD and SCR waveforms in current.

Benefits

  • Large aperture for cable up to 18 mm
  • High insulation between primary and secondary circuits
  • Eliminates insertion loss
  • Easy installation

Typical applications

In the realm of energy and automation, both AP and APR product lines serve diverse applications. Specifically focusing on AP sensors, some notable applications include:

  • Automation systems: Analog current reading for remote monitoring (e.g. motor) and software alarms.
  • Panel meters: Simple connection to power consumption displays.

In contrast, APR transducers are specifically engineered to cater to the following applications:

  • VFD Controlled Loads: VFD output indicates how the motor and attached load are operating.
  • SCR Controlled Loads: Accurate measurement of phase angle fired or burst fired (time proportioned) SCRs. Current measurement gives faster response than temperature measurement.
  • Switching Power Supplies and Electronic Ballasts: True RMS sensing is the most accurate way to measure power supply or ballast input power.
